Below are a few updates about the Blomquist Foray 2025. Please read this email carefully and in full.
The sites and areas remain the same, but the hotel has changed to North Augusta, SC. This area is situated in closer proximity to the Preserves we are visiting.

A room block has been reserved at $129/night from Friday, March 7th to Sunday, March 9th, 2025. Double Queens and King rooms are available. The room block rates expire on February 24th, 2025. Rooms booked after this rate will be at the hotel’s set rates.

Detailed Schedule
Friday, March 7th, 2025 - Aiken Gopher Tortoise Heritage Preserve
  • 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Field
    • 45-60 min from the hotel
    • Site maps will be provided.
    • Two options, walk on your own OR be shuttled to specific sites.
  • 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Meeting room will be open for microscope and group work
Saturday, March 8th, 2025 - Savannah River Bluffs Heritage Preserve
  • 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Field
    • 10-15 min from the hotel
    • Site maps will be provided.
    • This is an opportunity to explore, take pictures, and collect.
  • 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM
    • Meeting room will be open until 8:00 PM
    • This will be an opportunity to start identifying the field collections, finalizing data, & learning from each other.
    • Presentations will be from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Sunday, March 9th, 2025 - Greystone Preserve
  • 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Field
    • 10-15 min from the hotel
    • Site maps will be provided.
    • This is an opportunity to explore, take pictures, and collect.
Presentation Information
Registration for presentations is now open and will remain open until Monday, January 6th, 2025. Full details will be provided by Monday, February 3rd, 2024. Presentations should be 5-8 minutes long, with a couple of minutes for questions.

Additional Information
  • Please note that parking and transportation logistics at the heritage preserves are challenging due to storm damage at Savannah River Bluffs HP from Hurricane Helene. Carpooling to relevant sites will be required.
  • The collection habitats are wet and rich, so participants are encouraged to bring appropriate gear, such as boots and waders.
  • First aid kits will be available, and some water will be provided. However, please come prepared for extended hours in the field.
